Draft for legal review. Have a qualified Nigerian lawyer check this page against the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 before you launch, and fill in the items in square brackets.
Who is responsible for your data
Iyawo [registered address] is the data controller. Contact us about your data at support@iyawo.ng.
What we collect
- Account: email address and password (stored securely, never in plain text).
- Profile: name, date of birth, gender, state and city, who you are looking for, and your photo if you add one.
- Sensitive answers: your religion, religious practice, family and marriage expectations and the deal-breakers you set. This is sensitive personal data.
- Messages you send to people you have matched with.
- Payments: amount, date and reference. Card details go directly to Paystack and we never see them.
- Technical: sign-in and security logs, and limited usage counts.
Why we use it, and on what basis
- To find and rank compatible people. For your sensitive answers we rely on your explicit consent, which you give during sign-up and can withdraw.
- To run your account, take payment and send you emails about your account.
- To keep members safe: preventing fake accounts, abuse and fraud.
Who sees what
- Other members never see your answers. They see a short summary of where you line up, your name, age (or age range), city if you allow it, and your photo as your settings allow.
- Our administrators see account details, reports and counts. They cannot read your messages or your answers.
- Photos are shown to other members only through private, signed links.
Companies that help us run Iyawo
Supabase (database and sign-in), Cloudinary (photos), Resend (email), Paystack (payments) and our hosting provider. They process data on our instructions. [Confirm the countries involved and the transfer safeguards with your lawyer.]
How long we keep it
- Your account data until you delete your account, then it is removed.
- Payment records for [period set by your lawyer and accountant], without a link to your profile once you delete your account.
- Security logs for [period].
Your rights
You can ask to see your data (use Download my data on your profile), correct it, delete it, limit or object to how we use it, move it elsewhere, and withdraw consent. Email support@iyawo.ng. If you are not satisfied you can complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission.
Security
Your data is encrypted in transit, access is restricted by strict rules in the database, and sign-in attempts are rate limited. No system is perfectly secure, and we will tell you and the regulator if a breach affects you as the law requires.
Children
Iyawo is only for adults aged 18 and over. If we learn that someone under 18 has joined, we remove the account.
